Book Characters I’d Name My Children After

Let’s get one thing straight. Me and Children equals no no. I’m a teenager who for the time being would like to be free of responsibility for a very long time. But this seems like a creative way for me to display my favourite character names so here we go

PicMonkey CollageDaenerys from A Song of Ice & Fire aka Game of Thrones:  In the hopes that my child will be fierce as a dragon and cuz it’s a pretty girl name, unique too!

Cress (short for Crescent) from The Lunar Chronicles: A unique and cool name

Annabeth from Percy Jackson: One of my best friends has a similar name so it would kind of be in honour of her

Elizabeth from Pride & Prejudice: I just put it in here because I love the book and because it’s quite an elegant name

PicMonkey CollageElias from An Ember In The Ashes: It’s a very exotic name I believe

Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss: I love French and Etienne is a pretty charming French name

Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird: I would actually name my kid after Atticus simply because I admire him so much

Theodore from All The Bright Places: It’s such a nice name and plus I loved the character so much!

What book characters would you name your children after?

Book news, Book reviews, life

July Breakdown

July was a really great month! I read some awesome books and my life was agreeing with me for the most part so that’s always good!

First and foremost it was birthday month so guess who’s a really old seventeen year old (I still act like a seven year old so it’s all good)

NOTE: Links to the reviews of the following books are in the titles, if you wanna check it out!

What I read

A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah.J.Maas

I had quite an infamous opinion on this one and we’ll leave it at that

Sweet Damage by Rebecca James

This was a hauntingly enjoyable read and I’m so glad Allen & Unwin encouraged me to pick this up!

Go set a Watchman by Harper Lee

Of course! July was the month this iconic book was released and despite unsure opinions I liked it for the most part.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

To be honest I went into this not expecting to not like it but despite being cliche at times it was a light and fun read.

What I watched

YES I the Paper Towns movie came out and it was funny and entertaining and you can read my review  here.

I haven’t been in the blogosphere this past month mostly because of school and life but this month I’m going to work on being more active on Twitter and keeping up with exciting book news

Have a great August everyone!

Top 5 Most Anticipated Releases For The Rest Of The Year

Long title much?

I have a feeling I’ve already discussed my most anticipated releases but hey no harm in repeating myself, plus the titles I’m about to mention have scarcely been discussed on the blog. That’s right, they’re exclusive.

NOTE: Goodreads link in the title of the book

Author: Rick Riordan

What’s it about?

Vikings basically. If you’re a fan of Percy Jackson or any of Rick Riordan’s stuff then you get my excitement. I cannot wait to become a prodigy at Norse Mythology now

Author: Richelle Mead

What’s it about?

The title literally gives it away. It’s about a girl who lives in a village where there is no sound. So they’re all basically deaf, which is going to be so interesting to read about. And I think it’s Chinese in nature? yay

Author: Julie Murphy

What’s it about?

A self-proclaimed fat girl who enters a modelling competition. I think it’s going to be a great read about self-image and being comfortable in your own skin, all that good stuff.

Author: Sarah.J.Maas

What’s it about?

If you’re keeping up with the times (likes I am jk) this is the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series. I cannot wait to see how the series ends and I’m sure this is going to be an action packed read

Author: Marissa Meyer
What’s it about?
This the final book in The Lunar Chronicles. It’s basically a fairytale retelling of Snow White but set on the Moon. If that doesn’t grab you in then I don’t know what will

I hope you discovered some new books to be excited about! Let me know in the comments any new releases I should get hyped about!

Things On My Bookshelf That Aren’t Books

So remember back when I used to actually do Top 5 Wednesday? well I’ve been so busy lately I’ve just decided to do topics that sound interesting to me.

This week’s topic is quite quirky and gives you a chance to kind of get to know me so here are 5 things on my bookshelf that aren’t books.

1. Tumblr Stuffz

Snapchat-8871319368206272782Here is a nice ‘Live’ sign right in front of my new Game of Thrones box set (which is quite ironic when you think about it) . I just have it on my bookshelf for decor purposes.

2. Post Cards

Snapchat--931936835471522300The one on the left was sent to me by my good friend in Japan and the one on the right is just one I nicked from a bookstore because DAVID BECKHAM PEOPLE

3. Little Autograph Book

Snapchat-5146246853971218515I have this little red autograph book and I think it’s quite special because it’s got messages from my Primary School friends and signatures of famous people like Sachin Tendulkar.  You want proof? okay.

4. Bits & Bobs

Snapchat-6112663251919942212I just have these lying around to ornament my shelf. The Eiffel Tower and Las Vegas Key chain are travel souvenirs from my friend and the little Australian Flag thing is one I got on my Citizenship Ceremony.

5. Creepy Doll

Snapchat-5423770084257800174My best friend (Sim) gave me this doll on my fourteenth birthday and it’s just been sitting there ever since so yay memories!

I hope you enjoyed having a look at some weird things on my bookshelf!

‘Would You Rather’ Book Tag

I saw this tag on Addicted to YA and went ahead and tagged myself so now I’m doing this tag. Yeah

Would you  rather… Drop your favourite book into the toilet OR watch it fall into a wood chipper?

I’m gonna have to go toilet so I can quickly dive in and save it then use my hair dryer to salvage it. But putting it through the wood chipper sounds like medieval torture

Would you rather… read only 1 book a year but remember everything OR read 100 books a year but remember nothing?

One book a year because the thought of not remembering as in not having any memory scares the shivers out of me.

Would you rather… Read only the first page of a book OR read only the last page of a book?

Strategically I’m gonna have to go last page because last pages rarely make sense which means it won’t matter. But if I were to read the first page I might end up getting invested in the book and then there would be trouble..

Would you rather get locked in a library OR get locked in a bookstore?

BOOKSTORE! because bookstores have new and shiny books and oh I could read all the new titles!

Would you rather… Drop your book in a lake OR accidentally set it on fire?

I”m gonna go lake because it’ll probably sit at the bottom of the lake and deteriorate or someone might find it who knows! but if i set it on fire that means it’s completely destroyed so nope nope

Would you rather… Read a book with a cliffhanger ending OR read a book with a heartbreaking ending?

I much prefer cliffhanger endings because often the reader is then left to interpret the ending while with a heartbreak ending you’re gonna be an emotional wreck for months (been there, done that)

Would you rather… Have the book’s ending spoiled OR never know what happens

Have it spoiled because I’m a curious cat like that

Would you rather… read only one genre forever OR never repeat the same genre after reading it once?

Never repeat the same genre after reading it once because I’m a big fan of variety and reading the same genre will just bore me to death with all the repetition.

Would you rather… Read a book where the main character is killed off OR read a book where the love interest is killed off?

This is a hard one!

Come to think of it I have read a book where the main character got killed off and the love interest was left alive. I’d rather have the main character alive because without them there is no story. So yeah kill the love interest.

Would you rather… Read a book that’s missing the middle chapter OR read a book that’s missing the first and last chapters?

Middle because first and last chapters make a book while the middle just develops the story.

Would you rather… love a book everyone hates OR hate a book everyone loves

I’d rather love a book everyone hates because I like playing Devil’s Advocate like that

Would you rather… loan a book to a friend who’s known to ruin books OR drop a book in a pit of snakes?

I would loan a book to a friend and make sure I make it perfectly clear that they can’t ruin it

Would you rather…. Be stuck on a deserted island without a book OR be stuck in a library full of books in a language you can’t read

A library full of books in a language I cannot read sounds better than being alone and bored on a deserted island. Overtime, I might just be able to decipher the language a little bit

Would you rather… Bring only 1 book on a 12 hour flight OR bring an e-reader with only 10% left on a 4 hour flight?

One book on a 12 hour flight sounds perfect actually!

Would you rather… Find out your best friend hates your favourite book OR share a favourite book with your worst enemy?

I’d rather my best friend hates my favourite book

Those were all the questions. They were pretty interesting to do and you should give it a try too!

Top 5 Wednesday | Books That Need To Be TV Shows!

Yay top 5 Wednesday is back at Infinity Reads and this week we have a hella exciting topic.

We see books being adapted to movies all the times but for some books movies just aren’t the ideal way, which is why we have TV shows!

So what top 5 books on my shelf would make good TV shows? let’s find out

The DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) by Kody Keplinger

Ooo I know, already starting on a controversial one since it’s already a movie and everything. I did review the movie here and I did like it but I believe as a TV show the characters would have more time to develop and we can potentially see the escapism stuff that goes down in the books.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I can imagine it! fast cars and boys and Welsh history lesson ugh yes please! A TV show of Raven Boys means we can explore one place for the WHOLE episode or it can fluctuate between what the characters are doing. It just feels like one of those books that is suited for a TV show like I can’t picture it as a movie.

Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Okay guilty confession I just put this one in here because it’s already becoming a TV show! I mean it had great potential as a movie if the casting was good and people didn’t have dreadlocks but since there are so many books in the series I think it has enough material to make into some solid seasons.

Dominic Sherwood as Jace. My body is ready!

Half Bad by Sally Green

I’m currently reading the sequel and like the prequel there is a lot of travelling throughout this book and I’m thinking TV-wise, they can end the episode in one place then begin in another. It’s again one of those books that I can’t picture as a film but rather a TV show. (mainly so it can drag on forever)

And the most controversial of all……

Throne of Glass by Sarah.J.Maas

I mean I can see it as being a fantabulous movie too but as a TV show it can be like the next Game of Thrones. Imagine getting to see Calaena’s sassy-ness every week instead of just once on the big screen. Plus each episode would have a new adventure to offer!

Those are the top 5 books I can picture as making great TV shows. Let me know how you feel about TV show adaptations. What do you think of the new Mortal Instruments show?

The Ultimate Book Tag

Thanks to Panda for tagging me to do this tag! Go follow! I mean how can you not with a name like Panda.

But on with the tag!

1: Do you get sick while reading in the car?

I’ve had motion sickness all my life so let alone reading I can’t even play Flappy Bird in the car….

2: Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you?

I’d have to say E. Lockhart in We Were Liars

Like This.

And I

Love it.

Okay some people find it annoying but I think it’s a good suspense-building tool!

Also, Patrick Rothfus in The Name of the Wind. It’s like describing the most mundane things in a poetic way, me loves.

3: Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Um Twilight obviously.

Just kidding (did I fool you there?)

Harry Potter cuz it was my childhood and Quidditch and Hermoine I mean how can you not love her..

4: Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books)?

I go to school a lot. I mean 5 out of 7 days is a bit excessive don’t you think? but yeah at school I just carry a school bag which is where my book resides, so to answer your question I do not have a book bag.

5: Do you smell your books?

Heck yes! I am actually such an advocate for smelling  books. I even instagrammed myself smelling a book (@infinityreads03)

But just you know when you pick a new book and breath in the smell of ink and paper and warehouse…

6: Books with or without little illustrations.

As long as the book doesn’t illustrate characters so I can have imaginative freedom. Otherwise, I love little drawings and doodles

7: What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

I can’t really answer this one.

I’m pretty decisive when it comes to determining whether a book has quality writing or not WHILE I’m reading the book so I haven’t really come across the above situation before.

8: Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

I didn’t really read that much when I was little (I know surprise surprise) but I’ll tell you a funny story anyway

Once in Year 2 I made my English teacher this cute card with this phenomenal Barbie sticker (don’t judge)  and then my frenemy stole my card and gave it to the teacher as if she’d made it and I was so mad I went straight to the teacher’s desk and was like “I’d like my sticker back thanks” and ripped the Barbie sticker off the card and then my teacher tried to settle the situation between me and my frenemy or something

Not book related but hey thumbs up for childhood stories!

9: What is the tinniest book on your shelf?

The Great Gatsby by F.Scott.Fitzgerald

10: What is the thickest book on your shelf?

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. The edition I have is quite a hunk

11: Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I write when I have time yes. I wanna be a writer but then I think “why would anyone wanna read my work?” then I think of just how happy it makes me feel to write so yes Author Aasma, we’re gonna make it happen!

12: When did you get into reading?

I swear I’ve told this story here before but my mum read fairy tales out to me when I was little but that’s about it. I didn’t seriously read till like Year 6 when I picked up the 39 Clues Series and I just got so into it and I never stopped reading after that it seems.

13: What is your favourite classic book? In school what was your best subject Language/Arts/English?

This is such a tough one! But Pride & Prejudice,  I mean Mr. Darcy….

I’m still in school and I do pretty well in my Language (French) and I do pretty well in my English so I dunno.

14: If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?

It would probably just lie on my shelf, I mean I’d keep it as a keepsake because it’s the thought that counts right

15: What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while blogging?

If I had to choose from:

Biting my nails

Speaking without thinking and then ending up insulting people

My all time sarcasm aka bitchyness as my friends like to call it

Yeah..there’s a lot….

16: What is your favourite word?

When said in a French way

17: Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

Definitely a nerd. I mean I’ve even got the glasses and everything

18: Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Vampires because they are dark and broody. Suits me I guess.

19: Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Shapesihifters! because I wanna be one. Imagine how cool!

20: Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Werewolves because it’s really cool when they shapeshift and they mostly happen to be on the hotter side..

22: Zombies or Vampires? Why?

Vampires because Zombies eat brain and..I’d rather drink blood. Ew sometimes I gross myself out

23: Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Forbidden Love for sure! I HATE love triangles because no one can ever make up their minds. Forbidden love is so much more intense

24: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

Did I also mention I hate romance? so yeah action packed with a few love scenes which is most dystopian YA really

And we’re done! Wow that was a long tag but really fun too! hopefully you learned some interesting things about me and be sure to do this tag yourself and let me know in the comments!

The game was stepped-UP

Splintered by A.G.Howard

Let’s give it a second thought before jumping into a dark gory re-telling of Alice in Wonderland

This year’s most compelling and serious book. The 1984 feels were strong

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

Escapism gone wrong anyone? but can’t wait to watch the movie!!

Around the book-o-sphere

Paper Towns movie trailer

AH AH it’s happening again! perfect adaptations of John Green’s books are giving me feel overload. I was honestly doubtful of Cara Delevigne playing Margo but omg after watching the trailer I was like “of course. She’s the only one who can pull this off” CANT.FREAKING.WAIT

Queen of Shadows cover reveal

They are so beautiful. I prefer the left one cuz i feel like there’s too much red in the right one but Caelena looks more badass in the right one. Hm idk.

Winter Cover Reveal

I swear this is like cover reveal month but look how gorgeous…

It bugs me how the Apple in Winter isn’t the same shade of red. I’m an art kid I’m picky with my colours okay!

The Fifth Wave Book Three

So I only found out this month that book three of the fifth wave finally has a title! And it is…

There are a lot of ways this could be interpreted. Trust me I could spend decades so let’s move on

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!

Omg I’m finally part of the cool club who’ve been nominated for this award. Massive thanks to lovely Livvy at BookComet. I found her questions quite amusing and I hope you will too so let’s get answering!

Nomination Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their website.
2. Put the award logo on your blog.
3. Answer the ten questions they’ve sent you.
4. Nominate 10 other bloggers to answer 10 questions that you pose to them

1.What’s your all-time favourite movie? The recent adaption of Les Mis?

I don’t do favourites but I could literally watch High School Musical every single night and not get bored so. Oh and shameful confession: I haven’t watched Les Mes (sorry Livvy!)

2. Do you classics? If so, what’s your favourite? It’s Les Mis isn’t it?

I do do classics! my go to would be Pride & Prejudice (I know so original) but MY.DARCY NUF SAID

3.Would you rather read a book set in Paris or Rome? Paris, you know where Les Mis was set.

I’ve read books set in both Paris and Rome so for round two I guess I’d go Paris again cuz who doesn’t like Towers and Cheese and Revolutions.

4.Do you listen to music while you blog? You listen to Les Mis like me, don’t you?

I am highly Anti Multi-tasking so the only thing I do while blogging is well..blogging. I know boring, judge me.

5.Do you have a favourite reading spot? Is it near your well-read copy of Les Mis?

My bed 🙂 we’ve had some good times. Okay that’s weird let’s move on

6.If you could choose to just know any other language in the world (other than what you already speak), what would it be? French? So you could read the original Les Mis not the translated one?

Funnily enough I already know French so I guess I’d like to learn to speak Arabic cuz people sound so cool when they speak it and I wanna sound cool too

7.What do you think is the most important thing in a book? Hope? Dreams? Love? Funnily enough, all three feature in Les Mis?

The most important thing in a book is its ability to connect with its readers whether that’s through the characters, the themes or the writing, as long as it leaves a mark then its done its job.

8.Do you have a special go-to book when you are sick, sad, upset, etc.? If you’re interested, mine is Les Mis.

I don’t have a special book, I just continue what I’m reading and hope it’s a god enough distraction.

9.Are you a quote person? I am. I have quotes from Les Mis on my wall.

YES I am! I love love love quotes. Here are some of my favourites just off the top of my head:

We accept the love we think we deserve- Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Fault, Dear Brutus is not in our stars but in ourselves that we are Underlings- Shakespeare

The world is full of assholes, what are you doing to make sure you’re not one of them?- Everybody sees the ants

10. Have you read Les Miserables? If not, WHY NOT?

No I haven’t. I’ve always been intimidated by the size of it but I promise I will get to it this year 🙂

I Tag the following people to answer my questions:

1.What two book characters would you name your children after?

2. If you could swap lives with any book character who would it be and why?

3. Show us some cool book swag/merch that you own

4. What was the last non-Ficiton/classic book that you read?

5. Share your current obsession/s

6. Do you read one or multiple books at a time?

7. What is one thing you’re most looking forward to this year?

8. What is your absolute favourite song ever?

9. Which two book characters do you ship the most?

10. What are you currently reading?
