The Secret Life Of A Book Blogger

Happy December and Happy first day of Blogmas guys!

To kick things off I thought it would be a good idea to do a little tag to get to know each other. Also, this tag is all over the internet and is not my original creation so that’s out the way.

How long have you been a blogger?

I began blogging in January 2014 so coming up on three years now (which is unbelievable). I’ve done countless posts on this blog about why and how I started blogging and yeah once I started, I never stopped.

At what point do you think you will stop?

I feel like I’ll keep this blog going for as long as I possibly can. Even if it does undergo periods of stagnation, I know I’ll come back because this blog is my happy place!

What is the best part?

The best part would have to be the interaction and connection you develop because of blogging. You meet so many like-minded people who share the same passions and they’re from all around the world. It’s incredible

What is the worst part?

The worst part would have to be that blogging is not a full time commitment for me. Oftentimes I have to prioritise school or work above my blog. So yeah, the worst part would have to be the fact that the blog has to be sacrificed sometimes.

How long does it take you to find/create pictures to use?

My blog is mostly centered around writing and written content so my images usually come from Google which takes about three seconds.

Who’s your book crush?

The first person that comes to mind would be Adrian Ivashkov from The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead or more specifically from the Bloodlines series. Brown hair. Green eyes. Artist. Are you convinced yet?

What author would you like to have on your blog?

I think it would be super duper cool to have Jennifer Niven on my blog. She seems so lovely and she’s so pretty. Otherwise Sarah.J.Maas or Tommy Wallach.

What do you wear when you write your blog?

Literally my pyjamas. The comfier, the better.

How long does it take you to prepare a post?

That depends on the post. A review would usually span about two weeks because it involves reading a book or watching a film. Other sort of spur of the moment posts cost me 20 minutes of my day.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I absolutely love it. To think we live in an age where we’re able to share our common passions so easily ahh!

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

Keep persisting. I think that goes with anything in life. If you work hard enough on something and puts loads of effort, it’s gonna return in some form or another. You just have to have patience.

I encourage you to do the tag and leave it in the comments below!

Totally Should’ve Book Tag

I’ve seen this tag go around YouTube lately and decided it would be fun to do on the blog so here we go!

Totally should’ve gotten a sequel

Soundless by Richelle Mead just because it appeared to be so short and because you’re kind of accustomed to expect a sequel from Richelle Mead aha

Totally should’ve had a spin off series

This kind of might be cheating but Percy Jackson, the Trials of Apollo is coming out so my wishes have been granted I guess.

An author who totally should write more books

Jennifer Niven! All The Bright Places is one of my absolute favourite books

A character who totally should’ve ended up with someone else

This series isn’t finished yet but I believe Nathan from the Half Wild series totally needs to end up with Gabriel.

Totally should’ve ended differently

Lol Allegiant. People who’ve read the book know exactly what I’m on about.

Totally should’ve had a movie franchise

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, I think it can be turned into such a beautiful film

Totally should’ve had a TV show

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater. The boys, the cars and the magic!

Totally should’ve had only one point of view

Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi just because the two POVs’ voices didn’t seem distinct at all and it just ended up making me confused as to who was speaking!

Totally should have a cover change

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, I’ve never been a big fan of these series.

Totally should’ve kept the original covers

Hmm I’m not too sure on this one but the new covers of the Percy Jackson series seem pretty childish.

Totally should’ve stopped at book one

I’ve only read book one of this series and stopped but Splintered by A.G.Howard, it just drags on so much!

I tag anyone who’s up for doing this tag!

The Book Blogger TMI Tag

It’s high time you guys got to know a little bit more about me because I’m so interesting you know. I saw this tag over at Spines & Covers and decided it was perfect

What book are you reading?

I’m currently reading Captive Prince by C.S.Pacat and it’s unlike anything I’ve read before!

Nothing 😉 JOKES

My favourite black trousers and a sweater

Percy and Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series. Percabeth is life!

What is the book you’re going to read next?

Prince’s Gambit, the sequel to Captive Prince

Ebooks-yes or no?

I’ve always been a bit old fashioned when it comes to books and loved the traditional paperback, I have nothing against ebooks just that I don’t find them suitable for myself. They’re great technology as long as they don’t completely replace ye old paperback.

Where do you prefer to read?

In my bed or on this special chair overlooking my back yard

Who is the last person you tweeted?

Probably @PneguinTeenAus aha

Whose blog did you look at last?

Happy Indulgence

How many bookshelves/bookcases do you have?

Just one sad lonely bookshelf and millions of boxes full of books

If you had the choice to meet all of your favourite book bloggers or all of your favourite authors, which would you pick? you can only pick one.

I would pick all my favourite authors. My favourite bloggers would understand why I made that choice.

Insta-Love-yes or no?

NO! it’s pretty unrealistic and just ugh I like seeing relationships develop gradually.

Favourite author?

Too many but Jane Austen, John Green, Rick Riordan would be a few

What is the number one book on your wishlist?

A Hardcover box set of Jane Austen’s novels thanks ❤

Do you prefer books with female or male protagonists?

I like to read a bit of both. How about dual POVs from a male AND a female’s perspective?

What is the last song you listened to?

For Him by Troye Sivan. His new album is AMAZING

Which do you enjoy reading more- negative reviews or positive reviews?

I like reviews that provide constructive criticism highlighting the good and the bad. I aspire to do that in my reviews as well.

Who are you going to tag?

Whoever feels like doing this tag feel free to answer the questions above!

Book Blogger Confessions Tag

I saw this tag at Spines & Covers and decided it looked scandalous and that I should totally do it, so here’s goes.

Which book, most recently, did you not finish?

I didn’t finish Macbeth by Shakespeare, we watched the new film for school but the play is just too full on for me.

What book is your guilty pleasure?

I’d say Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. Despite the hate, I actually enjoyed Twilight and the movies were my favourites back in the day

Which book do you love to hate?

This is going to sound really weird but I’d have to say Throne of Glass by SJ Maas. I love the rest of the books in the series but the first book did not phase me at all.

Which book would you throw into the sea?

Probably The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. The writing just wasn’t compatible with my tastes.

Which book have you read the most?

I’m not a big fan of re-reading but I have read Anna and The French kiss twice now so.that’s an accomplishment?

Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

I love presents so I wouldn’t really hate any book I received as a present unless it was a non-fiction on knitting or something irrelevant you know what I mean?

Which book could you not live without?

There are so any but Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. I feel like my life is just based off of that book so..

Which book made you the angriest?

Allegian by Veronica Roth and Paper Towns by John Green..they both have disappointing endings but the ending of Paper Towns is justifiable..can’t say the same for Allegiant

Which book made you cry the most?

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven oh lord

Which book cover do you hate the most?

Anything with people on it so maybe The Vampire Academy series?

As part of the Australian YA Bloggers & Readers Secret Santa Blog Hop, we want to know whether everyone’s been a good or naughty blogger this year. That’s why we’ve been asked to answer a few questions sharing our memorable reading moments from this year.

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Winter by Marissa Meyer

Heir of Fire by SJ Maas

An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oaks

How did you go with your Goodreads challenge?

I’ve had NO TIME to update my Goodreads this year and well, let’s just say I’m 30 books behind schedule which is dreadful and shameful and yeah

How many times did you post a week on average? Do you think you’ll post more/less in the future?

I reckon 2 times on average per week? Realistically, I will be posting less in the future because I’ve got my final year of schooling coming up and it’s going to get hectic.

What is your favourite blogging moment/achievement of 2015?

Definitely meeting Sarah. J. Maas at Supanova the other day. Recap post here. Also, when Nara from Looking For the Panacea recognised me when we met in Dymocks like whoa people know of my existence.

Did you read mostly review or non-review books this year?

I believe there was a balance between review and non-review books but mostly non-review so yay

What are your blogging goals for 2016?

This ensues another blog post in itself but I guess posting regularly and blogging with passion and sharing things that I love.

What books are you looking forward to in 2016?

The Last Star by Rick Yancey

Half Lost by Sally Green

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan

Based on the answers above, have you been a good or naughty blogger this year?

ANSWER: Good (Fight me)

Leave 3 clues to help your santee guess who you are!

  • You LOVE Rick Riordan
  • You went overseas this year

Cinderella Book Tag

cinderella book tag

I discovered this tag on Oh, the books and I just had to do it so let’s begin!

cinder one

The first person that comes to mind is Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in The Rye. I mean there are characters who irritate me at most but Holden just provokes a whole new level of annoyance. I just don’t find him relateable and he seems whiny which I can testify is NOT TRUE of all teenagers. I recently did a post a on 10 things I hate about the catcher in the Rye so tap for elaborative rant aha.

cinder two

I’m going to have to say Mr.Darcy from Pride & Prejudice. I feel like a lot of books I read don’t necessarily have gentlemen because YA and Bad boys is a match made in heaven. I’d have to argue though that Mr.Darcy isn’t really a gentleman to begin with but Lizzie changes that

cinder three

This is going to sound very cliche but Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles fits the description (maybe because the books are a fairytale retelling?) but seriously, I don’t know about grace what with Cinder in her mechanics overalls but she is kind and she is defiant.

cinder four

Feyre from A Court of Thorns & Roses. That girl always decides to get herself in trouble and surprise surprise literally every male character in the book is somehow there to protect her. I mean I wish I was half that lucky.

cinder five

Reading in general makes me happy, I don’t really care which book jsut any book does the job really. Oh and I’ve really been into adult colouring books, seriously so calming.

cinder six

I’m gonna have to say, Arya Stark from A Song of Ice & Fire, come to think of it literally every character in Game of Thrones goes through some sort of transformation. But seriously, Arya goes from princess to bandit and now to some Faceless assassin.

cinder seven

The Death Cure by James Dashner. The Maze Runner series didn’t faze me from the beginning so by the time I got to the last book I really didn’t see the point since I realised I wasn’t going to get any answers.

cinder eight

Definitely Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Never in a million years could I have guessed that plot twist. I even dedicated a post to it and the controversy behind it here.

cinder nine

Divergent series by Veronica Roth. Tris is actually such an inspiring character and I’m not even kidding, every time I am about to do something that is daunting I tell myself to “Be Brave” or be Dauntless I guess haha

cinder ten

I cannot think of one book whose ending is perfect, I’m either unhappy with the ending or unhappy that the book has ended. But I guess All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven has a good ending in the sense that it gives you closure but I’m still heartbroken.

That was the Cinderella Book Tag from me! Now it’s your turn, if you feel like it tag yourself and answer the questions or just tell me in the comments!

Book Characters I’d Name My Children After

Let’s get one thing straight. Me and Children equals no no. I’m a teenager who for the time being would like to be free of responsibility for a very long time. But this seems like a creative way for me to display my favourite character names so here we go

PicMonkey CollageDaenerys from A Song of Ice & Fire aka Game of Thrones:  In the hopes that my child will be fierce as a dragon and cuz it’s a pretty girl name, unique too!

Cress (short for Crescent) from The Lunar Chronicles: A unique and cool name

Annabeth from Percy Jackson: One of my best friends has a similar name so it would kind of be in honour of her

Elizabeth from Pride & Prejudice: I just put it in here because I love the book and because it’s quite an elegant name

PicMonkey CollageElias from An Ember In The Ashes: It’s a very exotic name I believe

Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss: I love French and Etienne is a pretty charming French name

Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird: I would actually name my kid after Atticus simply because I admire him so much

Theodore from All The Bright Places: It’s such a nice name and plus I loved the character so much!

What book characters would you name your children after?

Blogger Recognition Award

Thank you so much to The Lit Mermaid for a Blogger Recognition Award nomination! You’re the best!

  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post.
    • Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing! (It happens LOL)

How my blog started

I vaguely recall wanting a space to record my thoughts on books so I somehow stumbled upon WordPress (it was fate) and created a blog.  At the time I was obsessed with the idea of infinity and my best friend’s favourite band was Infinite (KPOP fans anyone?) so hence, Infinity Reads. I remember losing interest in the first month or so then I noticed people were actually reading and commenting on my stuff so that kept me going and here we are!

Probably not the most exciting/inspirational blogging story you’ve ever heard but yeah.

Advice for new bloggers

I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half now which in my opinion isn’t that long but the three pieces of advice I would have to give new bloggers are:

1. Don’t Give Up

The MOST important thing about blogging is commitment and perseverance. You’ve got to have patience, the people and the recognition, the fun, everything will come in due time. Remember, focus on the light at the end of the tunnel

2. Be Passionate About Your Content

There’s no point in blogging about makeup if it doesn’t excite you. Create the kind of content that gives you satisfaction, that makes you want to keep creating MORE and also, create content that you’d want to read yourself. In saying that, stay true to yourself and your blog but try to balance your audience’s needs at the same time.

3. Be Yourself

Okay in the initial stages it’s okay to be (highly) inspired by other blogs but as you go along try adding your own personality and your uniqueness to your blog, trust me it goes a long way. People will always appreciate you showing them your quirky side, it means you’re a real person.

I can usually never be bothered nominating people (laziness you see). But here’s a list I compiled!

Faith @Fangirl World (always)

Safa @ Books over people

Janelle @A million pages, a million worlds

Rochelle @Inside my worlds

Kacie @Kacies Bookshelf

Chanice @Inside the mind of a bibliophile
